There are many ways to look for relevant IT work experience and internship roles. A lot of people think that all IT roles require people with highly developed specialised technical skills. These roles exist and are very interesting to some, however many, many more roles exist where students can use their skills and gain experience as the “interpreters or translators�. In these roles they assist the business people by using their knowledge and skills to understand what the business person needs, and how they could help them satisfy those needs.

Our partners are keen to find and develop people for Human Resources (HR), Business, Marketing support and assisting roles where they can work with people across all the areas of the organisation. They find ways to develop, apply and use new and improved processes which help the business to better service their customers.

These people often become very valuable in assisting the business to extend it’s reach and influence to their existing customers and to find new people who wish to use their products and services.

The ACS Foundation has been identifying and organising such opportunities for students since 2001, and this process continues today in 2010

Surveys continue to show that people with relevant industry experience are highly rated and sought after by employers. The fact is that such Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience accelerates a student’s career, not delays it, and much more importantly gives them a much better chance of being better informed, educated & empowered about the type of job and the organisation they want to work for.

Now is an excellent opportunity to try before you buy, and many WIL participants end up employed by the company where they get their WIL experience. This is not a guarantee but rather an opportunity to show by your work contributions you are someone that business wants to have around as they become even more successful.
