The Systems & Technology Group (STG) Linux and Open Source development team within the Australia Development Laboratory (ADL) is Australia's leading Open Source development team and part of IBM's global Linux Technology Centre. Also known as OzLabs, this team comprises of many long established Linux and Open Source developers whose technical skills are highly recognised throughout the international Linux and Open Source community.

The Canberra Lab is currently seeking a 2013 Graduate Software Engineer to join their IBM STG Linux & Open Source development team. Graduates with the IBM STG Linux & Open Source development team will find a unique opportunity to contribute to a variety of Open Source projects and collaborate closely
with hardware engineers designing IBM's products and technology.



Required skills:
  • Excellent C programming
  • Operating systems (Unix, Linux)

  • Good debugging skills

    Preferred skills (2 or more):
  • Networking
  • Experience in open source software development (good understanding of tools such as gcc, git, bugzilla)

  • Experience with device drivers
  • Experience working with Hardware
  • Parallel programming

    Knowledge in the following technologies is advantageous:

  • Scripting Languages (Shell, Perl, Bash)

  • Cluster networking

    Graduate applicants must meet the following requirements:
    - Due to graduate or have graduated from an Australian/ New Zealand university within the past 24 months
    - Have no more than 2 years relevant work experience
    - Have a strong academic record i.e. credit average (65% or above)
    - Have permanent residency or are a citizen of Australia or NZ
    - Fluent in speaking English
    - Have a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following:
    - Engineering (Electrical/Computer Systems/Software Engineering);
    - Science (Electrical/Computer Systems);
    - Information Technology
  • Required
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • English: Fluent
    Preferred
    • At least 6 months experience in C, C++, C#
    • At least 6 months experience in Java programming
    • At least 6 months experience in Procedural languages
