Job Description 

This position will be responsible for participating as a software engineer in the Global Product Development team of the Hexagon Mining Division. The QA Tester will work collaboratively within the PD team and with other departments within the Hexagon Mining Division and Hexagon group. The QA Tester will be required to manage and execute all phases of code release and software quality assurance efforts.  The incumbent will plan and execute tests and have primary responsibility for driving defects to resolution.

The Autism Academy for Software Quality Assurance (AASQA) at Curtin University is an Australian social innovation initiative with the vision of harnessing the special talents of people with Autism Spectrum for the collective benefit of these individuals, the industry and the wider community. The mission of the AASQA is to enable individuals with Autism Spectrum to leverage their unique talents through outreach, training and educating, and graduate programs, so as to create pathways from schools to valued, long-term employment; whilst addressing the business needs of the Australian ICT industry facing challenges in attracting and retaining software and quality assurance testers within the sector.

Hexagon Mining, the ACS Foundation and AASQA are in partnership to continue Australia’s first Specialist ACS Foundation Work Integrated Learning scholarships for undergraduates with Autism Spectrum and related conditions. The working environment will be inclusive by investigating and accommodating the individual needs of the interns in terms of their working conditions prior to and during their employment. 

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Assist in the development of test artefacts (test plans, test scripts both manual and automated) for Hexagon Mining products
  • Execute a test plan i.e. perform all the tests outlined within a test plan.
  • Highlighting issues found in testing that need to be reflected in the technical documentation relating to the product.
  • Undertaking the testing of installation and upgrade of new releases prior to packaging a software release.
  • Planning, installing and managing test environments as required by the PD team.
  • Seek, use and promote best practice methodologies & tools (including reusing existing open source and third-party software modules where possible) to deliver software to the required standards and to maximise speed of development
  • Adhere to architectural goals and guidelines as set out by the Team Leader or Product Owner
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the software development process within the development team
  • Communicate progress status through suitable communication channel and provide accurate estimates of remaining work.
  • Interface with other groups as required to deliver the required objectives 
  • Work collaboratively within the development team to raise and maintain a high level of technical proficiency
  • Compliance with Hexagon’s Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures, participation in audits and compliance with instructions given in respect to the health and safety of himself / herself and the safety of others

Qualifications - working towards an Australian University degree

  • Working towards a university qualification (Bachelor degree) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar. 

This scholarship role amounts to $6,800 tax-free for Undergraduate students working for 3 months at 30 hours per week.
