Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Analytical Chemistry Software Testing Intern to join our software quality engineering team. This internship provides hands-on exposure to software testing and validation activities for scientific software used with analytical instruments, including UV-Vis spectroscopy systems such as the Cary UV series.
This role is ideal for students who have a background in chemistry or analytical sciences and are comfortable working with laboratory software and instrumentation. The successful candidate will help evaluate software functionality, execute test procedures, validate scientific workflows, and provide user-focused feedback to improve product quality and usability.
Prior industry experience is not required; however, candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of laboratory practices, strong computer skills, attention to detail, and an interest in technology and software Testing.
Key Responsibilities
Execute manual software test cases for scientific instrument software applications.
Operate analytical instruments, including Cary UV-Vis systems, to support software testing and validation activities.
Create and execute realistic customer workflow scenarios to verify software functionality and usability.
Record, document, and report software defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting information.
Verify defect fixes and perform regression testing on new software releases.
Collaborate with software developers, quality engineers, product managers, and scientists in an Agile development environment.
Assess software workflows from an end-user perspective and provide recommendations for improvement.
Maintain accurate test records, documentation, and test results.
Learn and apply software quality engineering and testing best practices.
Required Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
Hands-on laboratory experience gained through coursework, university projects, internships, or research activities.
Familiarity with analytical laboratory instrumentation and software.
Strong computer literacy and confidence learning and using new software applications.
Ability to follow detailed procedures and document results accurately.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using UV-Vis spectroscopy instruments (Cary UV experience is highly desirable).
Familiarity with laboratory software and data analysis tools.
Exposure to software testing concepts, defect tracking, or quality assurance activities.
Experience with analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, or similar laboratory systems.
Basic programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB) is advantageous but not required.
Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
