Iluka’s corporate offices are located in the CBD of Perth where this role will be based with some travel to operating or processing sites as required.
Role Overview
The Graduate Semantic AI Engineer will drive the design, development, and implementation of a semantic layer (sematic data catalogue, enterprise industrial knowledge graph). This will enable data intelligent, enhance business user engagement with data, and support AI agents across structured and unstructured sources. The semantic layer will serve as a foundation for improving the accuracy and relevance of data discovery, data inference, large language model (LLM) queries, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and other AI techniques.
Role Responsibilities
Enable intuitive data exploration and interaction for business users through semantic search, natural language interfaces, and visual knowledge navigation tools.
Integrate the semantic layer with AI agents and LLMs to enhance query precision and contextual understanding using RAG and other hybrid approaches.
Ensure semantic models support governance, lineage, and compliance requirements.
Continuously evolve the semantic architecture to support new use cases, data domains, and AI capabilities.
Required Technical Skills:
Experience in semantic modeling, ontology development, and knowledge graph technologies (e.g., RDF, OWL, SPARQL LPG, CYPHER etc)
Familiarity with LLMs, RAG pipelines, and AI/ML integration with semantic layers.
Proficiency in graph databases (e.g., Stardog, Neo4j, Amazon Neptune etc) and semantic web standards.
Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex data concepts into business-friendly language.
Working toward postgraduate level qualification in computer science or related field with coverage of semantics, data modelling, and ontologies.
Required General Skills:

You must be studying toward a post-graduate qualification related to Computer Science/ Information Technology/ or similar
