Australian National Maritime Museum

The ACS Foundation was pleased to talk to over 360 year 9-11 high school girls about careers in STEM. The 2023 Women of STEM Day hosted at the Australian National Maritime Museum on March 9th 2023, seeks to Empowering high school girls to pursue a career in STEM. In its 7th year, the event saw 12 schools and 39 teachers participate from across the greater Sydney region. Schools included:

  • Tumbi Umbi High School

  • Mount St Joseph’s High School - Milpera

  • Richard Johnson Anglican College

  • Bishop Tyrell Anglican Chollege

  • Holy Spirit College - Bellambi

  • Endevour Sports High School

  • Cranebrook School

  • Marist College - North Shore

  • Inner West High School

  • SCEGGS

  • Fairfield High School


Students were able to hear from inspiring speakers and also participate in 3 hands on exhibitions. These included visiting the Lego Brickwrecks display, exploring hands on Ocean Science activities, and have a behind the scenes tour of the museum. Students also took time to speak to many STEM exhibitors who helped the girls explore the diversity of career options within the STEM field.

The ACS Foundation was able to let students and teachers know about initiatives available to support them as they pursue their interests in technology. Students heard about the Women of STEM scholarships, the Big Day In, WIL internships, and Career Fields and study pathways.
