In Review: The 2026 UTS Big Day in Sydney
On March 3rd and 4th 2026, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) hosted 2 days of career events for Sydney wise years 9-12 students. The annual Big Day In is a showcase of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic jobs roles for future Australian graduates.
The Program commenced with an official welcome from Andrew Parfitt, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Technology Sydney, and The Hon Steven Whan MP.
The agenda featured a variety of engaging sessions, starting with Corporal Darren Mead and Aircraftsman Jayden Woodley discussing careers in the Australian Defence Forces. James Hull from Adobe emphasized the importance of building a diverse skill portfolio in an ever-evolving job market.
Following morning tea, Ian Ng and Harrison Cook from Google shared insights into their work in software engineering, highlighting collaboration and creativity. The Westpac Group led a discussion on the future of STEM in banking, while Aneta Field from Canstar illustrated how non-coding skills can enhance tech careers.
After lunch, Dan Bowen from Microsoft presented on emerging technologies, followed by representatives from the Australian Signals Directorate discussing career pathways in intelligence. The day concluded with Tata Consultancy Services presenting strategies for computational thinking, and a prize draw.
Day 2 saw a new cohort of local high school students explore the same topics. A key feature is not just to speed presentations with industry representatives, but also the exhibition hall with stands from STEM employers. Students were able to ask work and experience related questions to multiple potential employers all while on their excursion at UTS.
